Descriptions of these records/bands:

DWOA = early 90’s inspired hardcore/emo akin to Indian Summer, Still Life, Yaphet Kotto and Portraits of Past. Former and current members of: Burial Year, Bullets*In, Threatener, Takaru, A Light In the Attic, Great Apes, Ole Hole, Pills, etc.

BUYER’S REMORSE = Drive Like Jehu meets Black Flag and Ghostlimb. Members of Graf Orlock, Ghostlimb, Dangers and Forming.

STIRLING SAYS = The best elements of 90’s indie rock (Dinosaur Jr. and Seaweed). Features Seth of Funeral Diner on bass!

KATIE THE PEST = Another throwback to 90’s shoegaze/indie rock, ala Velocity Girl

DROWNING WITH OUR ANCHORS are playing in Los Angeles on Saturday March 31st

Saturday March 31st @7pm - 5011 W. Adams Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA

DWOA w/ Calculator, Moxie Beat, etc.

Hopefully this show is secure since the PILLS show from last year was moved three times in the same day.

Here is the facebook link for the show.

I’ll be selling the last 8 copies of the DWOA “Breathing Lessons” 7“‘s there. Or you can buy them online for cheap at the STORE link to the right ——>

An ending or a new beginning…

After about 5 years, I’ve sporadically released 5 records (all of which I am very proud of), and had numerous other record ideas and projects fall through. As a husband, father and full time, overworked, underpaid teacher, it is becoming harder to try and even maintain that this is a functioning label. On top of recession finances tightening evermore, I’ve decided to put the label on hiatus (to the dismay of maybe 3 people). I hope to release the HEAVY FACE “Discography” on cassette tape this year, but after that Commodity Fetish Records is setting itself to the dustbin of the dustbin of punk history.

If a couple of the projects “on hiatus/waiting” status turn around, then the label may briefly be back on track…

I do have an idea for another label if I can find another friend or two to jump on board…

Thanks to all my friends and everyone else who supported the label over the years in anyway.

Cheers!

Update: January 2012

The status of the Yaphet Kotto “Rare Collections” LP is currently uncertain. The original recordings of their early 7“‘s are non-existent and in order to get those songs on the LP it would require simply to record/rip from the vinyl, which would have poor sound quality. After spending a year of trying to track down those originals, it has been futile. At this point the project is on hiatus…

HEAVY FACE “Discography” on cassette tape is still in the works.

I still have about a dozen copies of the BUYER’S REMORSE 7“‘s and three copies left of the KATIE THE PEST/STIRLING SAYS “split” 7”.

BUYER’S REMORSE 7” for $3 bucks

BUYER’S REMORSE “A Thorough Analysis” 7” on clear vinyl limited to 300 copies will forever be (through CF Records) $3 bucks (not including post). This is while supplies last. There are about 12 copies that I have left.

HEAVY FACE Discography

In the next couple months I’m going to be putting together my next release while I’m waiting for the YAPHET KOTTO compilation to come together.

CF Records #6:

HEAVY FACE “Discography” on cassette tape.

HEAVY FACE were an amazing band. They existed in 2007 - 2008 before imploding after maybe 10 or so shows, which mostly occurred in the LA area. HEAVY FACE were a “post-grunge” band, combining elements of late era-BLACK FLAG, THE JESUS LIZARD, BIG BLACK, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, “Bleach”-era NIRVANA, etc. and were an intense band to see live. They were also good friends of mine.

More info will be posted in the next month or so.

Check out some of their tunes Here.

MORROW touring the US (currently)

Long running act, MORROW are touring the US and they will be playing in Pomona (Los Angeles area) on Monday October 24th at Alladin Jr.’s (296 W. 2nd Street, Pomona, CA).

MORROW features my buddy Damian who runs Excursions Into The Abyss Records and was also in the band Dead Letter Auction back in the day. Also, CF Records celebrity Josh Kuntz (DWOA, PILLS, BURIAL YEAR, BULLETS IN, etc.) is playing guitar for MORROW on their current tour.

Please, please get out and support this band! You won’t be disappointed.

UPDATE: Fall 2011

My buddy Justin at VITRIOL RECORDS has been busy touring Europe with GHOSTLIMB and DANGERS as well as releasing some awesome records (Ghostlimb, Reivers, Griever, Trainwreck, Graf Orlock, etc.). Definitely worth checking out.

BUYER’S REMORSE: Rumors are out that BR might be recording another 7” for VITRIOL. Hopefully, now that Justin is back in the states, they will be playing some shows again. The 7” is still available for $4 ($6ppd).

HEAVY FACE: I know I keep coming back to this, but I’m thinking about releasing their discography via cassette tape… If people express interest in this then it might actually happen.

PILLS, DROWNING WITH OUR ANCHORS, STIRLING SAYS: PILLS have played a handful of shows in the Bay Area recently, but not sure what the status is. DWOA are pretty inactive as of now and SS are in the same boat. Josh of DWOA and PILLS is still in a million bands, most recently, GREAT APES.

As always, thanks for the support!

New Beginning

So, you may have noticed (probably not, though) that this webpage is now labeled as “CF RECORDS” and notCommodity Fetish Records.” After a lot of thought I have decided to shorten the name of the label to CF Records for a variety of reasons. The main reasons have to do with confusion and/or misinterpretations of the term “commodity fetish.” This label has been around now for almost 5 years and even though it’s not a very consistent or even well-known label, I’ve received over the years quite a few emails from strange fetish “s and m” folks in reference to the word “fetish,” but also, as I stated before, a lot of confusion and misinterpretations about the political nature of the term “commodity fetish.” Since this is an idea developed by Karl Marx, many people jump to the conclusion that this label is communist. It is not communist or ideological– not at all! Some people also get thrown off by the logo, which I thought because of its cartoonish and amateurish look would obviously be satirical. Sigh. The term “commodity fetish” for me was a perfectly sarcastic jab at record collectors (this includes myself) since the basic description of commodity fetish is about how social relationships are defined by the values that are placed on commodities (i.e. records). I felt that that was perfect for the awkward social skills of record nerds, as well as many other references one could take away from commodity fetish and record collecting.

Anyways, this name has not always worked out and I don’t want to completely change the label name and start all over from scratch, so I am officially shortening it to:

CF Records

I’m also thinking about changing the logo. If anyone has any sort of inclination to develop a new logo for the label, I’ll give you some free records and other gifts.
